Dan Finn sadly passed away in a tragic accident back in 2004. Him and his family were very well loved in their community for being extremely self-less helping others in need and contributing their time and resources to the athletic community. The Finn family represented real community leadership and generosity. So when they had their own time of need, the Dan Finn Foundation was created to initially help them, but now it's mission is to help others with schooling, athletics, and tuition grants. It's a wonderful cause! And we're so happy to be involved!

About the Dan Finn Classic & The Foundation
The original mission of the Dan Finn Classic was twofold. First and foremost the intention was to get the Finn Family out from under the tremendous financial burden that befell them following the tragic incident that took their son’s life. Secondly, at the request of the family, was the desire to perpetuate the good memory of Dan Finn.
Following the Dan Finn Classic of 2006, it became apparent that the Finn’s, while not completely in the clear, were no longer in crisis state as their bills became manageable. The focus thus concentrated on keeping Dan’s name alive, not just by naming a basketball event after him but helping others, as Dan always did, in charitable, humanitarian, and educational ways.
The DFC 2014 along with our Foundation Gala have afforded us the opportunity to offer tuition assistance grants to an additional 75 elementary and high school graduates bringing the total to date to close to 300 students sharing over $250,000.00 in scholarship and tuition assistance grant monies. Additionally, charitable and humanitarian causes, including the families of two fallen Jersey City police detectives, Marc DiNardo and Melvin Santiago, the Wounded Warriors campaign, the Jersey City Firefighters Distress Fund, the Bill DeFazio Scholarship Fund, St. Michael’s (Union City) Sports Assn., Superstorm Sandy relief through Shore 2 Recover, Boston Strong through the Charlestown Boys Club, and many other worthwhile projects.
It is anticipated that close to $70,000.00 will be spent in 2015 funding similar projects.
The scores of volunteers who help bring the DFC to fruition each year take pride in knowing that their efforts will continue our goal of helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

Honoring
THOMAS A. DEGISE, MAUREEN HULINGS, KEVIN CUMMINGS, RAY LUCAS
Every year in the beginning of October, friends and family gather to celebrate a wonderful son, friend, scholar, and athlete; to honor his legacy. The foundation’s proudest day is when we have the ability to give others who embody Dan’s tenacity towards life, the recognition and appreciation they deserve.
Last year’s Gala was a tremendous success; one that would be difficult to improve upon. But that is exactly what we expect to achieve with a couple of considerable changes.
It is unfortunate that the Newark Club has been forced to close it’s doors. They treated the DFF Gala like family and we will be forever grateful to Artie Wassif and his staff for providing a venue that was loved by all.
It is with great pleasure that the DFF announces the Charity Gala will return to Jersey City in 2017 at the luxurious Maritime Parc, located on Audrey Zapp Drive in Liberty State Park. The accommodations, food, and service go along with the “reach out and touch” views of the Statue of Liberty, the Freedom Tower, and the revitalized Jersey City waterfront to offer a top shelf venue.
The full fledged cocktail hour and sit down dinner format that was used last year went over big and will be retained again this year. This provided additional elegance to an already elegant evening adding immeasurably to the quality of the event.
Our “Distinguished Citizens” will have large shoes to fill but we are sure they will be up to the task. This year’s rounded foursome is listed below.
Additionally, we will again have our popular “Tricky Tray” with raffle baskets which will alleviate some of the confusion at the end of the night.
